Situated in the Sierra de Los Filabres 20km from Albox and 40 mins from the Mediterranean, the traditional white-painted village of Albanchez dates from 1680 and the house itself from at least 1806 according to the original census diagram available of te village of that date.
Albanchez is built on a spur of rock in the cobdar valley and surrounded by olive, almond, orange and lemon groves with a newly built road running over the mountains to Sorbas and Almería. The population is approximately 1.000 with a ten year old urbanization on the outskirts popular with British and Belgian residents.
The village is enterely self-supporting with butcher, baker, 2 general stores, pharmacy, tobacconist, library, hotel, 2 restaurants, 3 tapas bars, garage and petrol station, in addition to 24 hr medical centre with ambulance, paramedics and helicopter pad for more serious cases. There is also a primary school, swimming pool, all weather floodlit football pitch, netball-tennis court and various children´s play areas-older children are taken by bus to nearby village for secondary education.
A very helpful twon hall is situated in the square and there are also 2 churches, 2 banks, post office and even a part time police office(We don´t have crime here!).Market day in the square is Thursday 9.00 am-1.00pm.
The house itself is the first in one of the streets leading from the square so access and parking presents no difficulty and all window and balconies are fitted with mosquito screens. Electricity, water, and sewage are all mains supplied therefore no generators or septic tanks are necessary and land line telephone, broadband and British television are installed.
